Learn Calligraphy, Cursive, and Penmanship for Free on the Simply Lettered YouTube Channel

If you've been wanting to learn calligraphy or improve your handwriting but you're not sure where to start, I want to let you in on something: I've been building out a free resource for you, and it lives right on YouTube.

The Simply Lettered Studio YouTube channel is where I show up to teach, share, and pull back the curtain on everything from cursive penmanship practice to the business side of running a small creative brand. Whether you're a complete beginner or you've been practicing for years and want to sharpen your skills, there's something on the channel for you — and it's all completely free to watch.

Why I Started Creating YouTube Content for Calligraphy and Penmanship Learners

Teaching has always been part of who I am. Before Simply Lettered, I was a kindergarten teacher. I love the process of breaking something down into steps and watching someone understand it for the first time. YouTube felt like a natural extension of that — a way to reach people who might never take an in-person class or live close enough to work with me directly, but who still deserve access to quality instruction.

My goal with every video on the Simply Lettered YouTube channel is to make the art of handwriting feel approachable, beautiful, and worth your time. Because I truly believe it is.

Free Cursive Penmanship Practice Videos — Warm Up With Me

One of the most-watched videos on the channel is the Cursive Penmanship Practice and Warm Up Drills — and I think it resonates because so many people know they should be warming up before they write, but have no idea what that actually looks like in practice.

In this video I walk through the warm-up routine I use before I sit down to do any serious penmanship work. Warming up your hand is one of the most underrated steps in developing better handwriting, and it makes a real difference in the consistency and flow of your letters. Whether you practice daily or pick up your pen a few times a week, come warm up with me on YouTube and see what a difference a few minutes of drills can make.

The Cursive Connection Pattern Drills — Build the Muscle Memory That Makes Cursive Flow

If you've enrolled in The Cursive Connection or you're working on developing your cursive handwriting, the Pattern Drills video is one you'll come back to again and again. Pattern drills are the backbone of traditional Palmer Method penmanship — the repetitive, rhythmic strokes that train your hand to move with consistency and confidence.

This video is a great companion to the curriculum, but it's also useful completely on its own. If your cursive feels choppy or uneven, pattern drills are almost always the answer. Watch the Pattern Drills video on our YouTube channel and practice right along with me.

Writing a Friendly Letter in Cursive — A Vintage Social Letter Writing Guide

This one is close to my heart. The Writing a Friendly Letter video is built around the beautiful, nearly forgotten tradition of writing social letters — the kind that people kept in shoeboxes and passed down through generations. I walk through the format of a vintage-style friendly letter and write one out in cursive, showing you exactly how it's done.

In a world full of DMs and emails, there is something so powerful about sitting down and writing a real letter to someone you love. Head over to the Simply Lettered YouTube channel to watch this one and then go grab a piece of good paper and try it yourself.

Best Pens for Handwriting — Gelly Roll Complete Collection Review

I get asked constantly about what pens I use and recommend, so I dedicated an entire video to the Gelly Roll Complete Collection Review — one of my favorite everyday handwriting pens. I go through the full collection, compare finishes, and talk through which ones I reach for most and why.

If you've ever stood in the pen aisle at a craft store feeling completely overwhelmed, this video is for you. Watch the pen review on YouTube before you spend another dollar on a pen you're not sure about.

Small Business Sunday — Self Publishing and Product Manufacturing

For those of you who follow along not just for the calligraphy content but for the behind-the-scenes of running a small creative business, the Small Business Sunday series is exactly what you've been looking for. In this episode I talk through self-publishing and product manufacturing — something I've been deep in the weeds on as Simply Lettered continues to grow.

If you're a maker, a creative entrepreneur, or just curious about what goes into building a handwriting education brand from scratch, subscribe to the YouTube channel and come along for the ride.
