I still remember the moment I realized cursive was disappearing.
I was in my classroom, teaching a group of kindergarteners, and I watched them swipe and tap and type with complete ease — and then pick up a pencil and stare at it like it was a foreign object. Something about that moment stayed with me. We had traded something beautiful for something convenient, and nobody seemed to notice.
That's why I built The Cursive Connection. Not just as a curriculum, but as a movement to bring back one of the most meaningful and overlooked skills in modern education — traditional American cursive, taught the way it was always meant to be taught.

What Is The Cursive Connection?
The Cursive Connection is a 40-week Palmer Method cursive curriculum designed for learners of all ages — from third graders picking up a pencil for the first time to adults who never learned, or who learned and want to do it right. It was created by me, Cheyenne Tucker: a certified penmanship instructor, IAMPETH member, former classroom teacher, and homeschool mom of four boys here in Utah.
This is not a worksheet packet. This is not trace-and-repeat busywork. This is a full experience that weaves together historical context, proper technique, progressive skill-building, beautiful tools, and genuine joy in the craft of handwriting.
More Than Just Penmanship — A Connection to History
One of the things that sets The Cursive Connection apart is the why behind every lesson. We don't just learn how to form letters. We learn where those letters came from. Students study historical handwriting samples, learn about Platt Rogers Spencer and A.N. Palmer, and begin to understand that cursive is more than a skill — it's a living link to our past. The U.S. Constitution, letters from the Civil War, personal notes from great-grandparents — these are written in cursive. Learning to read and write it means those documents are no longer locked away from us.
That kind of context changes everything about how students engage with the material.

What Students Gain
The benefits of learning cursive go far beyond beautiful handwriting. Research consistently shows that cursive writing supports brain development, improves memory retention, strengthens fine motor skills, and can even help learners with dyslexia. Beyond the cognitive benefits, there's something deeply grounding about putting pen to paper — a meditative, focused practice that screens and keyboards simply can't replicate.
By the end of The Cursive Connection's 40 weeks, students will have developed a flowing, consistent hand, learned to both write and read traditional cursive, and earned a hand-addressed certificate modeled after the classic Palmer Method award — mailed directly to them upon completing the three certification checkpoints in the course.
For Homeschoolers, Classrooms, and Everyone In Between
The Cursive Connection was built to integrate seamlessly with whatever curriculum you're already using. The 40 weeks of lessons can be spread across one or two school years depending on your pace, and the worksheets are designed to complement, not compete with, the rest of your learning day. And because the online course includes lifetime access for your whole family, every child in your home has a seat at the table.
Left-handed writers are fully supported throughout the course. Adults learning for the first time are completely welcome — and honestly, some of my favorite success stories come from grown-ups who finally decided their handwriting deserved some attention.
This Is the Curriculum I Wish I'd Had
I didn't set out to create a curriculum. I set out to solve a problem — and along the way, I fell even deeper in love with the art of the written word. The Cursive Connection is my heart poured into 40 weeks of lessons. It's the thing I'm most proud of building.
If you've been waiting for the right moment to start — this is it.
